There is something for all the family in and around Westward Ho!, whether you are looking to entertain small children, teenagers or the young at heart. This trail is a guide to the not-be-missed food and drink available in the local area.
You can’t go far wrong with the Beach Bar Diner for breakfast. Next to the play area on the sea front green you can eat your breakfast in peace whilst keeping an eye on the kids. They serve an assortment of milkshakes, smoothies and frozen yoghurt too.
For top-notch seafood to take-away, look out of The Glorious Oyster pop-up on the village green. An ideal option if you can’t drag the kids away from the beach.
A less healthy option, but just as gorgeous, are the massive slabs of oozing, scrumptious homemade cakes, biscuits and treats at Tea on the Green.
Café Italia makes artisan pizza in their wood fired oven to takeaway or eat in. Their antipasti platters are delicious.
Where the beach ends and the cliffs begin sits The Pier House. Perched majestically on the cliff edge overlooking Bideford Bay and Lundy Island, this is a great location for lunch or dinner. The children’s menu includes the perennial favourites, while adults can select from an extensive menu, including locally sourced cheeses and seafood.
Come evening The Pig on the Hill is a great pub find for lovely food in a rustic setting in the countryside between Westward Ho! and Abbotsham. In addition to great food and drink (there’s a piglet’s menu for the under 10s) you can play boules in the Pigwam and the kids can run wild in the fields.
